Where Golfing Legends Are Made

History of the RRC

The Redbird Ryder Cup is a one-day 36-hole golf event that started in the fall of 1995 when several former Illinois State Baseball players were looking for a way to enjoy competition outside the baseball field. The event was originally called the Golden Schu Classic and the winning captain walked away with a siz 17 Nike high-top (courtesy of ISU Basketball player Sean Riley) spray painted gold and nailed to a 2x4. The traveling trophy attended several weddings and an occasional trip to the Pub II. In 2001, the trophy made an appearance at Schuster's wedding, but it has not been seen since. The event has evolved from the early days and is now called the Redbird Ryder Cup in honor of Illinois State University and the Ryder Cup.

This event is open to anyone that has a connection or history with the Illinois State Baseball Team.  Friends, family, coaches, etc. are welcome to join us.

Draft and Pairings

The RRC is a one day team event held at two different courses. We draft players the night before the event (usually at Pub II) and then announce the pairings that night. All participants are invited to attend Draft Night. The actual draft occurs in a separate room away from the smack talking participants. The Saturday morning session starts with the first group teeing off around 8:30 am. The afternoon session usually starts around 2:00 pm.
