April Update - 2009

05/03/2009 21:52

Gentleman,

The time is approaching and before you know it we will be teeing it up for the RRC.  I want to give you some updates as we move closer.   I'll try to update this every month as I get info you need to know

Dates - The dates are the same:  July 31st is the practice round and Aug. 1st is the RRC.

Updates - A few changes this year will occur.  First, we are hopeful that as many as 6-8 new (or guys that have not played in a while) will join us.  The list includes the following:  Tasche, Beef, Tippy, LD, Gooch, Kent Gieble, Jon Steward, Mark Kingston, Coach J, Greg Mote, Todd Kagel, Zu and perhaps Doc and OC.  If OC actually makes it, I will not take responsibility for any Turkey Eye-Ball sightings!!  I am still working on Shuey, but he is a challenge. I am hoping to get 24 guys, but 28-30 would be ideal.  Bob Schuster and Hawky Sr. have committed to playing 36 holes.

Courses - July 31st will be at ISU and the tee times are set (after 2:00).  Aug. 1st will probably be at the Den.  There is tourney set at PV, and I have to confirm the tournament schedule, but we will not be able to play both Bloomington courses.   ISU will host the final round (due to the tourney at PV).  Laura has been on me about playing there and we are going to have a quick lunch catered in for us before we tee off (burger, dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, etc.).  They are going to allow beer on the course for us as well.  Should be fun.

Practice Round Update The ISU athletic department is going to give the Friday group a tour of the stadium and buy lunch for us before we tee off.  I am trying to get them to kick in some shirts, hats or golf towels.  Yes, they will be talking about future funding of the locker room.  Hawky has protested that he is not about to "give them a frickin' dime" but the stadium is very cool and it will be worth your time.  We won't be there long.

Captains - I have thought long and hard about this and with the potential of new players coming in, along with the long drawn out drama we had last year in picking teams, I have asked Gockel to take one captainship.  I will be taking the other captainship. Gock's and I have been through the draft before, we know all the players and we promise to finish within an hour and a half.   Mac and Chap co-captains and are on deck to be captains in 2010 (barring an unforeseen grievance this year).   They will be taking notes as we draft teams so they know what to expect.

Get the Word Out -  I need your help letting guys know we are playing.  We have missed guys like the Meiny brothers, Tasche, Zu and others as the time gets closer.  Barring a broken sump-pump, cheerleading camp (Tasche) and who knows what else we lose guys at the last minute.  For those of you that have been consistent performers, we need you and appreciate your attendance (don't bail on us Meyer!!!)
